HONOLULU, Hawaii — The Army’s Directorate of Public Works responded to a wastewater spill on the grounds of Tripler Army Medical Center today.

The spill originated from a manhole outside the hospital at approximately 6:15 a.m. Response crews completed cleanup and disinfection of the area just after 1 p.m. Approximately 4,000 gallons were discharged into a parking lot and onto Tripler’s Jarrett White Road. The spill did not enter the storm water system.

The Army notified the Hawaii State Department of Health of the incident. No further actions are required at this time.

The cause of the spill was a blockage in the sewer line.
