JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas. — The Borden Institute, an agency of the US Army Training and Doctrine Command, Medical Center of Excellence, released the US Army Physician Assistant Handbook, Edition 2 as a part of its specialty publication titles on July 2, 2021.

This updated 70-chapter text has been revised, expanded and will cover changes to the Army PA profession since development of the first edition. The chapters were authored by experienced PAs and contain appropriate references for the readers to access current beneficial information. With over 175 PAs and medical professional contributors, this collaboration is truly a dynamic accomplishment.

Since the inception of the profession, military Physician Assistants (PAs) have demonstrated that they are versatile and adaptable force multipliers needed in a variety of environments. In particular, Army PAs have played an important role throughout the history of military medicine and this publication exemplifies their commitment to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines.

US Army Lieutenant Colonel, Sharon L. Rosser, DSc, PA-C, was a contributing author to the first and second editions of this distinguished publication. “As leaders and Army PAs, we must grow our profession into the future. Mentoring our teams – down, across, and above – combined with knowledge sharing are key multipliers to developing future leaders. The PA Handbook provides great foundational knowledge to grow and mentor from”, said Rosser.

It is with a great sense of gratification and enthusiasm that the Borden Institute present this essential publication to all past, present and future physician assistants and military medical professionals.
