Minnesota State University Moorhead (2015)
After high school, 1st Lt. Cody Holte enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2010 as a Military Engineer. He attended Minnesota State University Moorhead and received a degree in Criminal Justice with minors in Sociology and Military Science in 2015. While in college, Holte was an active member of Army ROTC for three years and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.
Holte served in the North Dakota Army National Guard as a first lieutenant. His units were out of Jamestown with the 817th Combat Engineers, and Lisbon with the 815th Construction Engineers. Holte was also a part of the North Dakota rappel team.
In 2017, he began his career in the Grand Forks Police Department assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau. Officer Holte was also a member of the Grand Forks Police Department's Honor Guard and a member of the Northeast Regional Water Rescue Team.
Holte was killed in 2020 while performing his other servant duties of being a police officer. He was killed in the line of duty when he shot and killed after responding to assist deputies from the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office who were fired upon as they served an eviction notice at an apartment.
After his death, Holte was awarded with the Woody Keeble Award, which honors North Dakota National Guard Soldiers who display courage, and determination to protect life, limb or property. He was also awarded the North Dakota American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the Year posthumously by the North Dakota American Legion.
As a graduate from the NDSU Army ROTC, he represents everything that an officer in the military should be at all levels. He set an example for all officers to emulate as he represented the Army values.
About the Army ROTC Hall of Fame
The ROTC Hall of Fame was established in 2016 as part of the ROTC Centennial celebration. The first class (2016) inducted 326 former ROTC Cadets who had distinguished themselves in their military or civilian career.
The Hall of Fame honors graduates of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps who have distinguished themselves in military or civilian pursuits. It provides a prestigious and tangible means of recognizing and honoring Army ROTC Alumni who have made lasting, significant contributions to the Nation, the Army and the history and traditions of the Army ROTC Program.
