593rd ESC Farewells CG, Welcomes New Commander & CSM

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – “After two years with 593rd and five years with America’s First Corps, there are many thank-you’s to give,” said the out-going 593rd ESC commanding general. “JBLM and the Pacific Northwest have become such an important part of our lives in ways that we could not have imagined when we moved here from Korea back in 2016.”

Brig. Gen. Timothy P. White relinquished his position as the “Rest Assured” commanding general as the organization welcomed Col. Martine S. Kidd and Command Sgt. Maj. Terrence T. Scarborough as the organization’s new command team during a change of command and assumption of responsibility ceremony at Watkins Field here, May 14, 2021.

“To the Soldiers, NCOs, officers, and families of the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, I am so proud of all you,” White said. “Your contributions to our nation are often understated, but never, ever unappreciated.”

“From the 112th Military Mail Terminal mail clerks that work in our post office to the (assigned) doctors and nurses that work at Madigan Army Medical Center, you professionally and humbly serve our community every day,” continued the native of Spencer, Massachusetts. “I appreciate all that you do to make our unit, our Corps, our Army, our Nation, and our world a better place. I was proud to serve you, and I wish you all continued success regardless of where your journeys take you.”

Initially taking command of the unit June 13, 2019, the out-going commanding general and new commander were once company commanders together while at the 10th Division Support Command at Fort Drum, New York.

“We would like to offer a warm welcome to Martine, Justin (Kidd), and Command Sgt. Maj. Terry Scarborough,” White concluded. “Thank you for your commitment to these Rest Assured Soldiers, and for everything you will do to continue to improve this command, we wish you our very best. Cherish every day -- for two years goes by way too fast.”

Initially enlisting in 1989, Kidd commissioned as a quartermaster officer in 1994 after graduating from Methodist College. She is taking command here after most recently serving as the director of sustainment and force management at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

“We are indeed very excited to be back here and for the opportunity to lead another of the Army’s premier sustainment organizations in the 593rd,” said Kidd, who calls the Pacific Northwest home.

“When we first served together 21 years ago at Fort Drum as company commanders, who could have ever imagined that we’d have the great fortune to pass the colors between us today,” she said during her speech. “Brig. Gen. White, sir, you have really worked tirelessly to ensure the 593rd is ready to serve our wartime mission, and with the momentum that you have created, Justin and I know that we’re ready to carry on. I also know how much the 593rd means to you, and I promise we will care for the people trained to remain ready to accomplish all of the missions assigned.”

A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Scarborough joined in the Army in October 1992, and has most recently served as the command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps.

“I am at the onset of my term as the eleventh ESC command sergeant major,” he said. “In the face of my upcoming duty I feel humbled, but at the same time I also feel very honored. I’m grateful to the entire JBLM team for giving me this opportunity.”
