From day one in the battalion, Cadet Emily Schmitz has espoused the values and traditions of the Fighting Saints Battalion. Her spirit of volunteerism, esprit de corps, and willingness to learn the leadership attributes and competencies has set her apart from her peers in many ways. She embodies the warrior ethos and Army Values in her everyday life and in her ROTC career which is evidenced by her significant accomplishments in the program. Cadet Schmitz strives to live out the moral standards she has set for herself every day, including the standards set by the Army Values and improving her self-discipline.
Emily is from New Prague, MN where she attended New Prague High School and graduated with honors, ranking in the top 10 of her class and became a member of the National Honor Society. Her hobbies include long distance running/ racing, volunteering with numerous organizations and various community focused groups. Her near-term goals are to earn a 4.0 in all upcoming academic semesters, score a 500 on the ACFT, Captain the Fighting Saints Ten-Miler team in 2021, complete an NSTP internship, and graduate with honors/ DMG. Her long-term goals are to commission into the Army Nursing Corps, win the Bataan Marathon in 2022, become an influential leader in the Army, earn a graduate degree in Nursing, and start a family.
Cadet Schmitz has received two “E’s so far this semester in her SOAR evaluations as a Company First Sergeant in Garrison and as a Platoon Leader during the Fall FTX for a Movement to Contact mission. Her tactical expertise continues to grow as she looks to gain experience in situations to adapt a flexible mind; breaking habitual thought patterns and anticipate uncertain or changing situations. She has an inquisitive mind and shows a constant desire to learn more about her duties and responsibilities as an MSIII Cadet. Her motivation, team player mentality, and positive attitude have become a strong asset that the rest of the MSIIIs have come to rely on. She has quickly risen to the top of her class in nearly every area.
